Best way to enable or disable Windows automatic maintenance

It’s no secret that your computer requires regular maintenance. However, if you’re pressed for time, Windows 10’s automated maintenance may come in handy, but only for a limited period if it’s causing you problems. Other programs are available to help you keep your PC in good working order.

Having a cup of coffee and then realizing that your Windows PC is sluggish because you started automatic maintenance may be pretty inconvenient. This is only one of the numerous reasons to turn it off. If your mind ever changes, the instructions below will show you how to do it again.

How to turn off Windows 10’s built-in maintenance?
You’ll have to modify the Windows registry to turn off the automatic maintenance feature. Any change you make, no matter how little, has the potential to have far-reaching effects. Back up essential data you don’t want to lose before you make any changes if you’re concerned about causing damage.

Press Windows + R to open the Registry. Regedit should show in the search field, so enter it in and hit Enter to run the registry editor. Navigate to the following location in the registry when it opens: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion> Maintenance

The option that reads to Maintenance Disabled should be on the right side of the screen. In such a case, right-click on it and choose Modify from the context menu that appears. Change the value’s data number to 1 in the new window that opens. In the absence of user intervention, the value will be 0. Maintenance Disabled must be created if it does not already exist.

Hover your mouse over the New option in the right-click context menu. Select DWORD from the drop-down menu that appears when a new window opens (32-bit). To avoid confusion, call it MaintenanceDisabled when you name it. Once it’s been created, right-click on it and choose Modify from the menu that appears. Keep in mind that the value data must be changed to one.

How to have Windows 10’s maintenance program run on its schedule

Windows maintenance can be turned back on at any time if you decide otherwise. Go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows NT> Current version> Schedule> Maintenance> DWORD value 0 in the registry editor.

Finally, don’t forget about the usefulness of Windows’s maintenance tool. Keep your PC in tip-top shape even if you don’t utilize this feature. It’s entirely optional. What are your methods for keeping your PC in top condition?
